The real fact of road usage
My sister used to say how the cars on the road pissed her off, because many of them were family cars, of which many were carrying just the drivers. Lines of cars ready to jampack the tunnel.
That’s an easy example to tell one of the reasons why Hong Kong has such a bad congestion.
They blame it on the buses. Well, the number of buses on the road should be cut.
Yet the elimination should not exclude these single passengers each in a whole damn car.
This picture can’t say it better.

This includes Taxis. They are like the hungry horde of ants looking for their next meal, gathering like blind savages on the roads.
As a kid, I would love to sit behind my dad while driving and pretend I am the driver. I was a car driver, motorbike driver, tram driver as well as a jet pilot in my kiddy dreams. Surprisingly when I reached 16-17, I had no need to drive. All my friends bought a car and would do anything to pick me up to get to the parties we needed to go. I was the most popular guy in school for this, that is before girlfriends ever existed for them.
Now I have the same thinking (um regarding the need to drive that is) especially in HK. Hate is a four letter word, but there are two things daily that frustrate me. The first is a driver sleeping or waiting in a stationary vehicle for someone (who the hell is that someone? They should be charged!). The other would be smokers on the streets, how they leave a wide trail of poisonous fumes for the crowd behind them. The amount of times I wanted to kick them in their bee-hind…I might just do that one day.
